Volunteer Needs

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST
As a non-profit organization, the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter relies on the involvement of volunteers to succeed in its mission.  The goal of the volunteer program is to support the mission of the shelter and to offer opportunities for the community.  Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the guests, staff and the community.

A FEW OF OUR CURRENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS:

Picture

office support

Office volunteers commit to one day per week, for a total of four hours, during regular business hours (9-4).  Office volunteers answer phones, greet community members, take information on people looking for beds or assistance, and much more!

Meal Preparation and planning

Meals cooked on site or in your home or church for 40-50 people are needed.  There are opportunities for any day of the week, with breakfast needs from 6:00AM-6:30AM and dinner served at 6:00PM.  Prepared food can be donated, or, if you are interested in cooking, we have an industrial sized kitchen and food supplies that can be used here at the shelter!

BUILDING CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

We have house cleaning too!  Volunteers can help during the daytime, when shelter guests have left for the day, with general cleaning and upkeep of our facility.  Those with maintenance skills may also be able to do more technical jobs, such as changing light bulbs, fixing and replacing door knobs and locks etc.
